Services

For each service Molly offers an initial Zoom consultation so that she can gather the relevant information and offer advice.

She will then review your draft and provide feedback. You make edits based on Molly’s suggestions, then rinse and repeat!

An additional Zoom consult can be arranged if necessary.

Molly will then do a final proofread of the document to fix any typos, grammar or punctuation errors, and formatting before you send it off!

To get to know if she’s the right editor for you, Molly offers a free sample edit of the first 1,000 words of your manuscript! This includes an optional Zoom consultation.

This edit will include a review of the first 1,000 words of your manuscript, an editorial assessment, and a line/copy edit.

To get you on the right track, this editorial assessment includes constructive feedback on the plot, structure, pacing, and character development in your manuscript. Molly will offer professional insights on the strengths of your manuscript, identify areas for improvement, and outline her suggested next steps for rewrites or further editing.

This service is included free with content/developmental and line/copy edits. Alternatively, if you don’t feel ready for editing yet, Molly is happy to offer an editorial assessment for $0.025 per word.

A developmental edit includes an overall review of your manuscript’s structure, pacing, coherence, and scene organisation to help with the bigger picture. This might mean reordering scenes or chapters for clarity and pacing, removing content or making suggestions for things to add, and revising narrative arc and character storylines. This ensures your manuscript is engaging, coherent, and consistent. Molly will do one more free review after you have made your corrections.

Onto the finer details! A line edit looks at the sentence structure, language, word choice, emotions, and tones in your work. This ensures consistency in the overall pacing and flow of your piece, as well as ensuring your voice shines through. It also ensures that your manuscript meets the standards of whichever style guide you have chosen to adhere to – this may change depending on your location or the publishing house you choose to go through.

Molly prefers to do these edits at the same time, and tends to do two passovers before she sends the manuscript back. She will then do one more free review after you have made your corrections.

This edit includes a free editorial assessment and style sheet.

$0.015 per word.

Proofreading is reserved for before you submit your final manuscript to a publishing house/agent/another editor. It ensures the spelling and punctuation is perfect, removes unwanted spaces, and checks the formatting of your work.

For manuscripts that Molly has not edited, a proofread will be $0.020 per word.

If I have worked on your manuscript previously, the final proofread will be $0.005 per word.

Research has been Molly’s bread and butter since 2018. Between completing two university degrees (and half of a PhD!) and fact-checking minute details for her own historical, romance, and fantasy novels (and she is a stickler for those small details!) she has honed the skills needed to complete thorough and accurate research.

Are you writing a historical novel and want to know if certain scenes were actually possible way back when? Maybe you’re unsure about what a concussion actually means for your character. Or maybe you’re writing a paranormal fantasy and, just for fun, you want to make sure the moon is in the correct phase in the scene you’re writing set in 1775. (Yes, Molly has done all of these things!)

Whether it’s for fiction or non-fiction writing, Molly will do research and fact check to the best of her ability and within reason. Get in touch for a consult now!

Please note that Molly will not do your academic or professional work for you.
