There’s a poison running through you
striking out as well as in,
Could the same one run through me too?
Can I call your actions sin?
Your words, they seem to mock me
till my worry doesn’t fit,
And my words sound like snobbery
till your ears turn to brick.
But the things we say, they don’t align
with the words inside our heads,
And this poison, it works by design
so that we don’t dissent.
Hidden by the poison
is a truth we both believe,
and lording over reason
are some men who just won’t leave.
They see us in our wretched fray
and laugh as we both cry,
Their plans go forth when we part ways
and smoke blocks out the sky.
And now we’re weak, worn, and bereft
as their descent begins,
And we have no more power left
to fight off our new kings.
